sad face, happy face, hungry face

So the husband left for England yesterday, which made me sad, but my parents arrived, which made me happy. We went on a shopping spree today and I got spoilt rotten. Thank you mooky and dad! Also looking forward to the Zara and Ikea goodies the husband will be bringing back with him. I joked with him and told him he's my personal shopper - not sure if he likes the title or not!

One of the things I love about having my mom around is that we make yummylicious food together. I guess I am the sous chef, but I like to think my chopping and strirring makes the food taste even more delicious. We're planning on making French onion soup and this recipe that I spotted in the latest Woolies Taste magazine. Mmmm ... wild mushroom ragout on herb mash.

happy things to look forward to

My parents are coming to visit me in Durban for a week on Sunday. I cannot wait! They were last here two years ago, so I have lots to show them. I'm just sorry that they couldn't have come a bit later in July for the Virginia Airshow (my dad loves anything that flies) and the Durban International Film Festival. The programme was released several days ago and wowzer, there are some awesome movies coming to town. My pick: Toast (based on Nigel Slater's book - that's Helena Bonham Carter in a scene from the movie above), The Tree of Life (the love-it-or-hate-it new Brad Pitt movie), Midnight in Paris (the new Woody Allen movie), Black Venus (about Saartjie Baartman), and Black Butterfiles (about poet Ingrid Jonker).

dad's day

The guy above is my dad (with my mom). He's a real gentle giant. I think people are a bit scared of him cause he's very tall (though you can't see it in this photo), but he's got a soft heart. He's the kinda dad who buys you and your mom chocolates at 10 at night cause you are craving something sweet, the kinda dad who plaited your hair for school every day. I think that's a cool kinda dad. So Happy Father's Day! Love you lots!

mooky's day

This beautiful woman is my mother. I am so proud to call her that. She is the most awesome person I know. I love you Mooky!
