look out red velvet

Need an excuse to make this. Am pretty sure it will become my new favourite cake.

"The first time I made pastel tres leches (or three milk cake) I didn’t even realise it was Mexican. It was the idea of soaking a sponge cake with a combination of condensed milk, ideal milk and cream that bowled me over! Topped with cream or meringue, this cake is seriously moist. I went for the whipped cream and some coconut flakes, though I think toasted flaked almonds would be even better. This cake is rich, so small portions are key. But only so you can go back for more."

velvety donuty goodness

Okay, so everyone loves red velvet cake. But have you heard of baked red velvet donuts? Yup, such a thing exists. And as soon as I get my hands on a donut pan, I plan on making some.

dessert queen

Leonor de Sousa Bastos is one of my baking gurus. Everything she makes looks, sounds and tastes incredible. She has a blog, Flagrante Delicia, which you just must take a look at. Right now. Then run out, buy the ingredients and bake one of her masterpieces. Yes.
Or else just look at the beautiful photos her boyfriend takes and drool.

yummy, yummy, yummy, I want olive oil cake in my tummy!

This recipe on Smitten Kitchen for blood orange olive oil cake looks yummylicious. I enjoy baking, but my husband isn't the type who will eat more than a slice or two of cake, which means that I have to eat the rest. Not that I mind, but I think my hips may! Anyway, that puts me off baking unless it's for a dinner party. But this does look tempting. Does anyone know if one gets blood oranges in South Africa?
