mooi rooi

I still have some work to do tonight, but I am ignoring it and instead looking at pretty prints with red as a focal colour. They would lovely above one's bed, don't you think?

once upon a time

I bought this Kenneth Whitley print at Ikhaya's stand at the I Heart Market over the weekend. R120. And it was framed! Always a bonus, especially considering the fact that I have several beautiful prints waiting impatiently to go to the framer...

wow widlake

I bought this dish cloth from Ikhaya a while ago. But I covet all of Mia Widlake's creations. I regret not buying the anchor one from O.live when I was in Cape Town...

dreamy drawings

Although I love drawings and I love clothes, I don't usually love fashion illustrations. These ones by Kelly Smith for Australian brand Portmans are the exception.

like something out of a horror movie

The husband and I had a traumatising day yesterday. The reason? Cockroaches. I found like dozens living in the cupboard under the sink. I hadn't looked in their in a month or three, but didn't think I had any reason to. I mean, there was just old magazines, paint, a watering can, and camping chairs in there, right? Oh yeah. And maybe a bag of cat food that the cats didn't like and I had planned on donating to an animal shelter? Hmmm. That kinda slipped my mind... Let's just say cockroaches and cat food equals mucho amounts of smelly euweeness. Anyhoo, my mind is still a little frazzled from the smell of the bleach and disinfectant, so I'm just going to brag about this print I bought a while ago from Wolves. It's by Frank Weber and I think it's the coolest thing ever.

open range

The husband and I have a thing for cowboys and Indians. I wouldn't mind having a teepee in our garden one day and wearing feathers in my hair. The husband likes wearing big boots and hats that wouldn't look out of place on John Wayne.

John Wayne by Andy Warhol.
American Indian print by Warhol.
Feather dangle from Bueno Bueno.
My dream teepee made by my favourite artist, Fanny Bostrom.

fabulous fanny

I've blogged about New York based Swedish artist Fanny Bostrom's work in the past. But apart from loving her pieces, I think she's pretty much one of the coolest girls around. Take a look at her style:

This last photo is from her wedding. Dungarees, boots, and flowers in her hair...

do it. do it now.

Rock that horse makes these amazing posters. You can order them, frame them, and hang them in your home. I think you should.

amber, banksy and pie

So my Easter weekend wasn't too exciting. My dog, Amber (she's 15 years old), had to stay at the vet with a drip in her paw last night, so I spent most of my time worrying and praying. I did, however, eat a super yummy meal and watched an arty documentary. The meal was tuna and pea pie and creamed sweetcorn at the Woolies Cafe and the doccie was Exit through the gift shop. The former has me obsessing about how I can recreate its deliciousness at home and the latter was pretty thought provoking, though I wish there had been more of Banksy in it. He seems like a really cool guy.

electric art

I am so going to have these light shades in my future home. They are made by an American company called Schoolhouse Electric.
The designs are by artist Yellena James. She has also collaborated with Nike, Adidas, Anthropologie and K2 Snowboards. Look how amazingly detailed her work is:

bye-bye summer

So, (and I hope I'm not speaking to soon) it seems autumn has finally arrived in this horribly humid city I live in. Which means winter is on its way! While I do love summer, I did not grow up in a tropical climate, so this weather has been driving me crazy. Hence me welcoming the drop in temperature with open arms and a wide smile on my face. Anyhoo, in my excitement I have put together a winter wish list:
Cool tunes from The Head and the Heart to listen to while working.
Tomato soup and grilled cheese for a chilly evening
A thick book to dig into. Like Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother or Blood, Bones and Butter.
A bright and beautiful photo collection from Little Brown Pen to stare at on gloomy days.
An awesome cropped peacoat from Country Road that I won't get bored of wearing.
